GoAir offer students 5% discount on base fare, allows additional 10 kgs baggage

No-frills airline GoAir on Thursday announced special fares and additional baggage allowance for students, undertaking travel for admission purposes or returning home.
GoAir offered a flat discount of five percent on base fare besides allowing an additional 10 kgs of baggage to the students who travel extensively at this time of the year to appear for exams or are returning back and changing cities to join new colleges and schools, the airline said in a statement.
The additional baggage allowance of 10 kg, in addition to 15 kgs already allowed, would make it easier for them to pack more requirements without extra cost, it said.

Students with valid college identity cards can avail this offer across GoAir network of 22 cities, the airline said.
"We realize the mobility trend of students and recognized the need for a tailor-made program exclusively for our young fliers. This offer will give our student fliers access to exciting and convenient flight options as they plan their budget travel," Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Chief Executive Officer of GoAir said.
The Wadia Group-promoted carrier has flown 1.87 million passenger in the January-March period of 2016, logging a growth of 14 per cent over the same period a year-ago.
Its market share during this period stood at 8.1 per cent.

SpiceJet Hopes To Place Order For Over 100 Aircraft In 2-3 Months

SpiceJet Hopes To Place Order For Over 100 Aircraft In 2-3 Months

SpiceJet Ltd hopes to place an order for more than 100 single-aisle planes in the next two to three months, its chairman said, as the country's fourth-biggest airline by passenger market share reported a surge in quarterly profit.

SpiceJet disclosed plans in November to buy more than 150 planes and that it was in talks with both Boeing and Airbus. Its current fleet is mostly Boeing planes.

Ajay Singh, who last year took over the airline, rescuing it from the brink of collapse, told a news conference on Thursday that operations had stabilised and the carrier was cleaning up legacy issues.

Talks are also continuing with small aircraft makers to potentially add to its fleet of 14 Bombardier Q400 turboprop planes, Singh said.

He had said in November that SpiceJet was in talks with Bombardier, France's ATR - a joint venture between Airbus and Finmeccanica - and Brazil's Embraer for 50 more smaller planes.
India's highly-competitive airline sector has benefited from lower fuel prices and growing passenger numbers.

SpiceJet's net profit more than tripled to Rs 73 crore for the three months to March 31, from Rs 22.5 a year earlier, it said in a statement.

The results included one-time gains of about Rs 63.7 crore, and also one-time expenses of Rs 173 crore towards "stabilising and improving the reliability of its fleet", the airline said.

Children Flying Solo ......:)

boy child airport airplane plane

Unaccompanied Minors

Airlines generally consider children ages 5 - 14 who travel without a parent or guardian to be "unaccompanied minors." Many airlines will not allow children 7 and under to make connections at all, but in the event a minor is old enough to change planes, they will probably be assisted by airline personnel and a fee will be charged. Some airlines -- Southwest, for example -- will not allow any minor (5 - 11) to change planes.

If you intend to send an unaccompanied minor by plane (with or without a connection), you will be required to fill out a form detailing the child's name, age, medical considerations and other relevant information. Upon arrival, children will be escorted from the aircraft by an airline representative and released to the person named by you prior to departure.

General Age Guidelines

Airline rules vary, but here's a good idea of what to expect on domestic flights:
Children ages 1 - 4 may fly only when accompanied by an adult. A child must be at least 5 to fly alone.
Kids ages 5 - 7 can take a direct flight to a single destination but not connecting flights.
Those 8 and up may change aircraft on some airlines. If they're between 8 and 11, they will be escorted by airline personnel to their connecting flight. Older kids -- age 12 and up -- may not be routinely escorted, but you can request this assistance as long as you pay the applicable fee

Minors must be met at their destination by another parent or responsible adult.

Image result for importance of communication in aviation

COMMUNICATION

Communication has long been suggested as a critical issue in all aspects of human interaction, which is reported to be the major contributing factor into aviation accidents. Communication is essential for organizational and managerial performance and success in any endeavour, including aviation environment. In order for decision makers to arrive at the best possible decisions from a set of alternative decisions, accurate information is a necessity and this is the important of communication, which requires attention of aviation management to establish and implement best ways of remedying communication problems.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

Written communication involves any type of interaction that makes use of the written word. Communication is a key to any endeavor involving more than one person. In fact, written communication is the most common form of communication in aviation through the use of SOPs, flight manuals, flight plans, checklists, operational bulletins and more between management and operational personnel. These documents are used to convey information and instructions needed by the organization to be performed by operational personnel. More importantly these documents are vital to aid decision makers when encountering problems during operations, therefore they are expected to provide the most precise, concise and direct information or instructions directly related to the situation encountered.

VERBAL COMMUNICATION

This is another important way of communicating within the aviation operational context, between ATCO and Pilots, management and operational personnel. Being able to communicate effectively will contribute to the reduction of aviation accidents. Verbal communications is one major media for communicating within the aviation operational context, and needs to be improved along the practical drift for all employees. According to many reports, communication error between ATCOs and Pilots is a major contributing factor into aviation disasters, therefore should be considered with great concern.
Aviation industry has been developing some innovative ways that could be employed in the system to increase level of improvement to communication, especially between ATCOs and Pilots. The website given herewith are among the many that discussed problems associated with communication in aviation operational context including the possible solutions of dealing with those problems.

CONCLUSION

The importance of communication in aviation is paramount as it affects safety; therefore it is essential that remedial actions are implemented that would contribute to increasing the level of improvement of communication. It is the responsibility of every aviation organization to proactively create safety nets that would prevent employees from becoming a contributing link to the chain of communication problems that could lead into accidents. For instance mechanics or engineering department, quality assurance inspectors, and supervisors demonstrated a lack of compliance with the approved procedures. Departures from approved procedures included failures to solicit and give proper shift-change turnover reports, failures to complete report forms and these are indications of poor communications which need to be considered appropriately.

skills that the aviation industry looks for in a potential candidate are as follows:
Team player
Like in any organization, employers in the aviation industry also look for someone who is a team player. You should be able to coordinate & work with co-workers for the common good of the passenger & the company.
Positive attitude
A person with a pleasant demeanour, courteous behaviour, and a good posture & excellent hygiene are always preferred by the employers. Other requirements may include willingness to work hard, enthusiasm for the job assigned, reliability, dependability & trustworthiness.

Knowledge
In the aviation industry safety is of utmost importance. It is critical that you are aware of the industry best practices, and rules & regulations. It is also your responsibility to ensure that everyone, from your co-workers to the passengers, follow these regulations to ensure smooth operations.

Communication skills
The job requires good interpersonal & communication skills to exchange information & avoid confusion. Employers are always looking for people who are 'willing to listen' as opposed to someone who is stubborn. The biggest mistake that you can make is to speak in a local language. You may feel compelled to speak in your mother tongue with your co-workers. But avoid the temptation at all costs. Using a different language in front of the passenger may make him feel unwelcome. Use the language that the passenger can comprehend.

From following guidelines set by the airlines to making sure the check list is followed, to the person who does maintenance of the engines, all should follow the required procedures to ensure a smooth journey.
