Etihad, Lufthansa In Talks To Merge Airlines: Report

Milan: Germany's Lufthansa and Etihad Airways are in talks to possibly merge the two airlines, Italian daily Il Messaggero said in an unsourced report on Tuesday.

According to the paper, managers from both companies have for weeks been examining the possibility of Etihad taking a 30-40 per cent stake in Lufthansa via a capital increase reserved for the Abu Dhabi state-owned airline.

In A First, Air India To Reserve 6 Seats For Women On Domestic Flights


NEW DELHI:  In a first-of-its-kind move in the aviation industry, national carrier Air India will reserve six seats for women on its flights operating on domestic routes from next week.

At times, a woman travelling alone gets a middle or window seat on aircraft, which puts her to inconvenience, particularly while going to washroom. This necessitated for the airline to keep some seats reserved for them on aircraft flying on domestic routes, an Air India spokesperson said.

Keeping this in mind, it has been decided to keep all the six seats in the third row of the economy class on Airbus A320 reserved only for women from January 18, he said.

"However, woman travelling with their family members would not be entitled to these seats," the spokesperson said.

Inspirational Stories of Real Life Heroes: How Brave Flight Attendants Saved Lives in Aircraft Accidents

Thanks to Fox Star Studios for reviving the story of brave Indian flight attendant Neerja Bhanot by producing a Bollywood film on how she saved the passengers from four armed terrorists on a hijacked Pan Am plane during its flight from Mumbai to New York via Karachi Airport in Pakistan on September 5, 1986. The life of 23-year old Neerja Bhanot came to an end as she was shot to death while shielding three children from a hijacker, but her unconditional dedication and selfless sacrifice became one of the inspirational stories of real life heroes. She deliberately hid the passengers’ passports to prevent the hijackers from identifying the Americans on board. Neerja Bhanot was recognized as “the heroine of the hijack” and posthumously awarded by the governments of India, the United States and Pakistan. She was the youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra award, India’s most prestigious honor for an exemplary act of courage.

From A Delivery Boy To An Auto-Driver And Now A Pilot, Here's Shrikant Pantawane's Inspirational Story!

Nagpur's Shrikant Pantawane, an auto-driver and son of a security guard, started working early in life as a delivery boy to support his family's dwindling finances. Later he took to driving an auto to make ends meet. At a very young age Shrikant was burdened with responsibilities and he would balance both his job and studies to support his family. 

But hardships, obstacles and financial struggles never disheartened him from pursuing his dreams.

Shrikant still sits behind a three-wheeled vehicle, but now its not his auto-rikshaw, but an aircraft!

With hardwork, determination and a pinch of luck, Shrikant achieved what he had only dreamt of as a child.

Once when Shrikant had gone to the airport to deliver a parcel, during a conversation with cadets he learnt that one could also become a pilot even without being inducted in the Indian Air Force. His conversation with a tea-seller outside the airport apprised him of a pilot scholarship program by the DGCA. There was no stopping for Shrikant after this.

He immediately grabbed his class 12 books and started studying and preparing for the scholarship. After the class 12 results were declared, he joined a flight school in Madhya Pradesh but he had one major obstacle in his way- English. Taking the bull by its horn, he accepted the challenge and surpassed the language barrier with help from his friends.

Shrikant passed the examination with flying colours and got his commercial pilot license, but global recession and a sluggish aviation market kept him at bay. To support himself and his family, he joined as an executive in a company. He worked as a corporate executive for sometime but always kept hoping for flying in the sky.

Two months back, he received a call from Indigo Airlines that included him as a First Officer in its pack of pilots.
