Cabinet approves Rs 330 crores for Jewar airport land acquisition

Greater Noida: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the disbursal of Rs 330 crore to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to start acquiring land for the sanctioned international airport at Jewar. "We are expecting the amount to be credited to the Authority today," YEIDA chief executive officer (CEO) Arun Vir Singh told TOI. "This is the first step in putting the project on track. Once we receive the money, we will forward the land acquisition proposal to the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate," Singh said.
The YEIDA earmarked eight villages for land acquisition for the first phase of the sanctioned international airport at Jewar in October this year. "To acquire the land by invoking Section 4 of the Uttar Pradesh Land Acquisition Act, 2013, we needed Rs 330 crores, which is 10% of the Rs 3,000 crores required for the first phase of the project," the CEO said.
According to YEIDA officials, the proposal for the land acquisition will soon be formally forwarded to the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration. "Four tehsildars (district land officials) will be tasked with handling all procedures for acquiring land in two villages each. One additional tehsildar will assist the sub-divisional magistrate in the process. In the first phase of the project, 1,200 hectares of land has to be acquired across eight villages. These villages include Runhera, Kishorepur, Mukim Sivara, Dayanatpur, Rohi, Parohi, Ramner and Banwariwaas," Singh said.
