GROOMING TIPS AND PRACTICAL TRAINING BY PTC AVIATION ACADEMY

  • Drink coconut water and cucumber juice but AVOID wearing lip gloss: Cabin crew reveal top secrets to looking good on long flights

  • Cabin staff taught beauty techniques during their training for the airline
  • Suggest using exfoliator, moisturizer and eye gel before landing
  • Hair styling products are a 'definite no' according to airline's stewardesses.

  • When ask what beauty essentials passengers should travel with, they recommended plant-based products, which they say help protect the skin and retain moisture when worn for long periods.

  • Other tips included wearing Blemish Base and Color Correction creams and mineral-based make up.
  • They advise that make-up should be removed with an alcohol-free cleanser while a hydration mask should be worn during the flight to keep skin well hydrated.
  • They say that lip balm should be used continuously and suggest a ‘mini skin care routine’ of using exfoliator, moisturizer and eye gel before landing and applying make-up.
  • Anti-fatigue eye serums, under-eye concealers with light reflectors and tinted moisturizer is another piece of wisdom imparted by the Emirates cabin crew.

  • To avoid the effects of low humidity and retain moisture, the use of styling products is a definite no.
  • Once on-board it’s a good habit to apply hair oil or serum to the ends of the hair to counteract this.
  • If brushing your hair, use a wooden hairbrush so that the aircraft’s static electricity doesn’t leave your hair standing on end!
  • Dehydration will affect the skin in general especially the hands, face and cuticles during long haul flights. Drink lots of water throughout the flight and hydrate as much as possible in the days prior to flying by drinking water, fruit and vegetable juices (especially cucumber).
  • Putting body lotion or body oil on clean skin before take-off also really helps, as well as removing any make-up and applying moisturizer to the skin.
  • Avoid waterproof mascara as this will dry out the lashes on-board. Cabin Crew sometimes use a pea-sized amount of hand cream or lip gloss to smooth down fly Sways and control frizz, which works a treat.
  • Hydration sprays are a great way to maintain the moisture balance in the skin.
  • Water based foods including fruit and vegetables are the best options for long-haul travel as well as coconut water.
  • Although it’s tempting to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in-flight, caffeine and alcohol are both major causes of dehydration so we highly recommend going for a fruit juice instead.

  • Long flights can also have a negative impact on blood circulation, with staff recommending regular walks through the cabin to minimize the problem.
  • Men are also given grooming advice by the Emirates cabin crew, with staff recommending the use of shaving oil to keep skin well-moisturized and prevent irritation and dryness.
  • Male staff also advise using a shaving brush to apply the shaving gel or foam as it acts as a natural exfoliator and helps get rid of ingrown hairs.
  • A time-lapse video showing a stewardess being made-up reveals just how the female members of the airline's crew prepare for work with their flawless skin and red lipstick.
